The South Carolina Association of Fairs joined with the Georgia Agricultural Fairs Association for the second yearly joint convention. The meeting was interesting, educational, and very well organized. The Piedmont Interstate Fair wants to thank our friends in Georgia for their gracious hospitality in making each and every South Carolina member feel welcome and important. AND to top off all of that, our fair was honored to win three of the four state awards given at the convention. Thank you to the association for recognizing our hard work and dedication. The 2013 GA/SC Association of Agricultural Fairs Convention was held in January in Atlanta, GA.  For the tenth year in a row, the Piedmont Interstate Fair has returned home a winner! We are very proud to announce that this year our fair once again received three of the four state awards presented. Our fair was selected as the state winner of the Program Award for our newest contest, "Bowling Buddies". We want to express again our sincere thanks to Star Lanes Bowling for supplying the bowling pins for this event.  Secondly, our nominee for South Carolina Friend of the Fair, Mr. Tom Troise, of Carolina Driveline, was selected the winner of this prestigious award for 2013.  The most coveted award of all, South Carolina Fairman of the Year for 2013, went to our nominee, Chairman of the Board, Mr. W. C. Bain. The association could not have chosen a more worthy person for this wonderful honor. The Piedmont Interstate Fair is very proud to have received these three outstanding recognitions at the convention. We appreciate the South Carolina Association of Fairs and the Awards Committee for recognizing the effort and hardwork it takes to compete in this process.   Behind every good man is a wonderful woman pushing him to greatness. Certainly in this case...W. C. Bain and his wife of over 50 years, Georgia, at the GA/SC Association of Agricultural Fairs Convention in Atlanta. Congratulations to Mr. Bain for being selected as the 2013 South Carolina Fairman of the Year. The officers, board, staff and, indeed, all of Spartanburg are proud of you! Mr. W.C. Bain receiving the 2013 Fairman of the Year Award at the GA/SC Agricultural Fairs Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Bain was chosen from all the nominees from across the state. The award was presented by Mr. Warren Lucas, President of the South Carolina Fair Association. Wayne Harmon presented the 2013 Friend of the Fair Award to Mr. Tom Troise at his place of business, Carolina Driveline, Inc., in Spartanburg. Mr. Troise was chosen by the Awards Committee of the South Carolina Association of Fairs from the nominees from all over the state. The Piedmont Interstate Fair is proud to have Mr. Troise as our longtime friend and sponsor. Three of the 391 Bowling Buddies Contest Entries... The Fair was presented the 2012 Program Award for this new contest. Thank you to all who worked so hard on their bowling pin entries. This award belongs to YOU! Piedmont Interstate Fair's Executive Director, Mr. Wayne Harmon, has been designated a Certified Fair Executive by the International Association of Fairs and Expos. He received his award on April 19th in Richmond, Virginia during the IAFE Annual Spring Management Conference. Drawing from over 3,200 organized fairs in the US and Canada, only twelve executives qualified for the coveted CFE award in 2010.
